Dear Customer:
We have just discovered that the Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite v8 SP1 release contained files that were infected with the VBS_ENVARY.A virus.
This strain of the virus is new enough that our various virus detection systems did not find it in our release kit prior to our shipping. This is why the infected files were only recently discovered as part of our ongoing product quality efforts.
The overall risk rating for this virus is Low. It is a Visual Basic script virus that will attempt to modify files with htm and html extensions to include a segment of VBScript that will drop a copy of the virus on the computer that read the infected htm/html file. The virus may also attempt to obtain your email address from Yahoo! Pager information and send an email to your account (subject line "Hello"), prompting you to visit certain Web sites.
In our testing we have not seen the virus actually infect a system even if the infected files were opened.
If you have not yet installed v8 SP1, please do not do so and remove the release kit. We will be posting an updated release kit shortly that will be free from this virus.
If you have installed v8 SP1, please follow the procedure below to disinfect any system that has Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite v8 SP1 installed:
HouseCall should detect and clean the virus from files contained in the <server-install-dir>\Tomcat\webapps\genweb\html\help\ar directory.
NOTE: This directory contains Arabic language help files and is not required to run the product. It is rare that these files are even accessed so the risk of this virus having spread to other files is very small.
Your systems should now be disinfected, and you can continue to use Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite v8 SP1. We will be posting an updated release kit shortly that will be free from this virus. Once that is posted, you will be able to update your system, which will replace the help files that were removed by HouseCall.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.
Sincerely,
The Nokia Intellisync Mobile Suite Team
