Using Intellisync Mobile Suite with a Secure Gateway

The Intellisync Secure Gateway is a service designed to sit on a server in a DMZ environment, accepting encrypted communications from client devices on either TCP port 80 (HTTP) or 443 (SSL), then re-directing them to the Intellisync back-end server on the LAN on a user-defined port, the default value being TCP 8865.

The service is installed from the Intellisync Mobile Suite installation media: simply run ‘D:\Secure Gateway\setup.exe’ (where D is letter of the CD drive, assuming that you are installing Intellisync Mobile Suite from a CD).

Follow the on-screen prompts to install the service. Once installed, the service will be listed within the Services administrative MMC snap-in:

Ensure that the service has started.

Now add the secure gateway to the back-end Intellisync server. On the back-end server, launch the Intellisync Admin Console. Right click on the Intellisync Mobile Suite console root and select Properties. Select the Secure Gateway tab:

    Remove localhost.

Click on the Add button and enter the IP address of the server that has had the secure gateway service installed on it:

Click OK, and then OK again.

On the secure gateway server, launch a web browser and browse to http://localhost/sgdiag/status.html

You should see details of the connection between the secure gateway and the back-end server:

NOTE – if a secure gateway is employed, then the Intellisync web PIM interface is no longer accessible from the Internet.

To alter the ports on which the secure gateway service both listens for incoming communications and forwards data over the LAN, browse to C:\Program Files\Secure Gateway\CommSvr\Conf\ and edit the file ‘securegateway.properties’
