Does anyone know which codecs i need to download and where to get them so i can play my HTC videos on my pc, i've tried Media player and Quicktime and neither are able to play the vids?

The video format produced by HTC and most modern devices is .mp4

I use Media Player Classic, included with the free K-Lite codec pack here:

Alternatively, the page it came from is here: http://www.free-codecs.com/K_Lite_Codec_Pack_download.htm so you can see and verify it is real, also should the next update from the site break the direct link. You want the "FULL" pack, not the basic or driver only versions.

This installs all the most common Divx and AVI player formats into your machine. After installation, you can play the file back in the included and now-default Media Player Classic. I prefer this player over any others I have found online for all video playback.

 

Windows, Apple Mac and Linux Users:

Apple Mac and Linux users can download VLC Media Player from here, this will also work for Windows too:

From my experience with both programs Media Player and VLC on a Windows XP platform, I prefer Media Player Classic.

They are both completely free to download and use for non-commercial purposes.

Would this mean it would replace my most recent version of Media Player?  i've only just installed it.

Yes, the default would become Media Player Classic (which imho is ten times better than Media Player 11)

To reset it, find an MP3 or AVI file and *right click* it, select Open With and then select Media Player and tick Always Use This Program.

This will cause Media Player to take over and play that type of file from now on.
