    Setting up Xtelsio TAPI for use with SIPtrix

    Prerequisites

    • SIPtrix v1.2 or above (see http://:<ip-address-of-siptrix-server>/admin for version number)
    • Xtelsio “TAPI for Asterisk”
    • Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP

    SIPtrix preparation

    • Use the Config Edit option from the Tools Menu in the GUI to locate and open the file manager_custom.conf
    • Locate the sub-heading entitled [AstTapi]
    • Edit this section, such that the network from which clients will be connected follows “permit”; e.g.

    [AstTapi]

    secret = AstTapi

    deny=0.0.0.0/0.0.0.0

    permit=10.0.0.0/255.255.255.0

    read = system,call,log,verbose,command,agent,user

    write = system,call,log,verbose,command,agent,user

    • Save the changes by clicking on the “Update” button at the bottom of the screen, then click the “Re-read Configs” link at the top of the screen
    • Ensure that SIPtrix is set up to allow calling out via the Default Route without a 9 being required. Go to Setup, Outbound Routes within the SIPtrix GUI, and select the route which is matched when a 9 is dialled (this may be called Default, but does depend on how you have configured your system). In addition to matching a 9, ensure the regular digits are also matched, thus:

    Here, 6 Xs match local numbers (no dialling prefix) and 11 Xs match international numbers

    Windows installation

    • Download and install the xtelsio “TAPI for Asterisk” client according to Xtelsio’s instructions. For ease of use it would be a good idea to click the option to install a link to the software on the desktop of the client PC
    • Click on the Xtelsio client link

    • Click on the “Configure” button

      • Highlight “Asterisk Line 1” then click “Settings”

      • On this screen, click the “Settings” button

      • At the “Asterisk Server” page, enter the IP address of your SIPtrix server and:

      Username is AstTapi

      Password is AstTapi

      Both username and password are case sensitive – enter as above

      It’s not actually necessary to press the “Connect”, but you can do so to confirm that the client logs into the server

      • Back on this page:

      Channel is SIP/<your extension>

      Your phone number is, again, <your extension> - must be the same as above

      Your name is what is presented on your phone when the server initiates a TAPI call – e.g. SIPtrix

      • The TAPI configuration is complete. Within Outlook, select a contact, then the

      • Click the “Dialling Options” button

      Scroll down in “Connect Using Line” until the Asterisk Line x you configured earlier is selected, then click OK

      • The telephone you configured will now ring – if you then pick it up, the system will dial the number from Outlook and you will be connected to the contact.
